“Money is the route to all evil. Do you agree?”

Sample Introduction. Money plays an important role in the lives of individuals and societies. It enables people to satisfy their basic needs, improve their living conditions and carry out various activities. However, money is also associated with several social problems, leading some people to believe that it is the route to all evil.  In this essay, we shall examine arguments both in support of and against this view.

NOTE:  The writer did not begin by saying, “I agree with the statement.” Or “I disagree with the statement.” The write’s personal position will certainly come in the conclusion.

Points For

To begin with, money is said to be the route to all evil because it can encourage people to engage in criminal activities. The desire to obtain money may cause some individuals to steal, cheat or participate in other illegal activities. For instance, some people may resort to robbery because they want to acquire money quickly.

The Transitional paragraph. After discussing the arguments for the motion, the candidate must move to the opposing side. This switch of sides is signaled by a transitional paragraph. Which is introduced by one of the connectors seen above.

Sample: In spite of the above arguments showing that money may contribute to certain social problems, it would be unfair to blame money for every form of evil in the society.  In fact, money can also produce several positive effects in society as will be seen below.

 

 Points Against

Sample: From another perspective, money is of great advantage to society and mankind. For instance, without money, it will be very difficult for humanity to gain access to basic commodities like medication, food, light and water. Therefore, money cannot be considered as the route to all evil.

 

Conclusion

Sample: In conclusion, money can certainly contribute to crime, corruption and other social problems when it is misused. However, it also facilitates trade, improves living conditions and contributes to development. I therefore disagree with the view that money is the route to all evil because money itself is not evil; rather, it is the way people use it that determines whether it produces positive or negative results.

NOTE:  The candidate has clearly summarized the discussion, taken a stand with a powerful justification.

To succeed in argumentative essay, always remember to: introduce, argue for, transition, argue against and conclude with your stand point.
