EDITING A SPEECH
A speech is made in a formal situation where someone speaks to an audience. It’s sometimes referred to as an address, that is, speaking publicly to a group of people.
To write a speech, one must consider these three factors.
Topic
A speech should normally have a suitable topic or subject and the name of the presenter or the presenter’s position. For example:
A SPEECH PRESENTED BY THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION ON THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-EMPLOYMENT DURING THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OF THE 24TH BATCH OF STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BAMENDA ON THE 25TH OF DECEMBER 2022
Greetings
The speaker should identify and greet important personalities in the audience, starting from the highest to the lowest. Each greeting should be followed by a comma and written on a separate line on the left side of the page.
For example:
Dear members of staff,
Dear students,
Ladies and gentlemen,
The above should be followed by the speech. The speech ends with “Long live…” to the institution or authority that governs the issue, starting from the lowest to the highest. Commas should be placed at the end of each line.
For example:
Long live GBHS Kumbo,
Long live the Ministry of Secondary Education,
Long live Cameroon.
