In literature, the plot of a novel or drama is shaped by the presence of characters and the different roles they play in the development of the story. Some characters play major or minor roles, while others may be described as round or flat. Characters may also be classified as protagonists or antagonists, depending on their roles and their relationship to the central conflict of the story. To understand these different types and roles of characters, we need to understand what characterization is all about.
