Definition of Punctuation Marks

These are meaningful symbols in writing used to structure sentences and clarify meaning through the connection of words or ideas. The end of a sentence is also determined by an appropriate punctuation mark. There are different types, and each plays a significant role in effective communication as it enables readers to understand the connection of words and ideas in a passage.

N.B.: Some punctuation marks can represent pauses or a change in intonation when a written text is read aloud. So, though we see them more in writing, we need to equally take note of some of them in speech.
