INTRODUCTION

In Alobwed’Epie’s The Lady with a Beard, events unfold in different villages, although the novel is broadly set in the Bakossiland. The choice of setting exposes the socio-cultural heritage of the indigenous people through their names, foods, traditions, beliefs, and ways of life. The different settings also provide the background against which the characters interact and events unfold. Setting will therefore be defined and examined in relation to its influence on the development of the plot.
