SPEAKING

Success in this section depends on the following:

• the clarity of your answers;
• how organized your answers are;
• the relevance of your answers to the subject matter;
• the use of supporting details such as reasons and examples;
• your ability to communicate your ideas well for better understanding.

In essence, your speaking should follow the OPINION → REASON → EXAMPLE → CONCLUSION structure.

Example:

Imagine the following question: “Do you prefer studying alone or with friends.”

The response could go as follows: “I prefer studying alone because I am able to concentrate better. For example, when I study with friends, we sometimes get distracted. When I study alone, I can focus on difficult subjects. Therefore, studying alone is more effective for me than studying with friends.”

Even though there is need for clear communication, always avoid the temptation of waiting till you can speak perfect English.  It is essential to keep speaking and to keep developing your answer. Perfection can never come in a day.
