TYPES OF ADJECTIVES WITH EXAMPLES

a) Adjective of Quality: Shows the kind or quality of a person or thing.

Example: good, bad, tall, short, beautiful, intelligent, lazy.

The intelligent boy succeeded.

 

b) Adjective of Quantity: Shows how much of a thing is meant.

Example: some, much, little, enough, all, no, any.

I have some money.

She has little patience.

 

c) Adjective of Number / Numeral Adjective: Shows how many persons or things, or in what order.

Example: one, two, five, first, second, all, many, few.

There are five books on the table.

He was the first boy.

 

d) Demonstrative Adjective: Points out which person or thing.

Example: this, that, these, those.

This book is mine.

 Those girls are present

 

e) Possessive Adjective: Shows ownership or belonging.

Example: my, your, his, her, its, our, their.

My father is a teacher. Her dress is red.

 

f) Interrogative Adjective: Used with nouns to ask questions.

Example: whose, which, what.

Whose bag is this?

Which road leads to Yaounde?

 

g) Proper Adjective: Formed from proper nouns.

Example: Cameroonian, African, English, Christian.

I love Cameroonian food.
