- A Brief Recap of Act One
It is worth remembering that at the end of Act One, the Younger family is divided by different dreams for their family’s insurance money. Mama on her part wants to provide a better home for the family, Walter wants to invest in a liquor business while Beneatha wants to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. Mama eventually uses part of the insurance money to make a down payment on a house in Clybourne Park, a predominantly white neighborhood. This leaves Walter deeply disappointed because he believes the money should have been invested in his business. In Act Two the family is confronted with both internal and external conflict. Internally, they are still struggling to reconcile their differences on how the insurance money should have been used and externally, they have to face the realities of racial discrimination in their new neighborhood.
